Hearts Bluff Purchases Andrew Wright’s Interest in “When A Man Loves A Woman” Share Thisi
You know the feeling when you hear a song in a public place and have to restrain yourself from joining in at the top of your lungs? Hearts Bluff Music is proud to announce that behind every public outburst of “When A Maaaan Loves A Woooman” there’s a little publishing company on Music Row in Nashville that’ll be singing along with you!
“When a Man Loves a Woman” has earned a well-deserved place in music history. It all began in Muscle Shoals, Alabama where a young man named Percy Sledge worked as an orderly at a small hospital by day and sang with a local band, The Esquires Combo, by night. In 1966, he became a household name after introducing the world to a song written by his Esquires band mates, Calvin Lewis and Andrew Wright. “When a Man Loves a Woman” put Muscle Shoals on the map, becoming the first #1 Hot 100 hit recorded there and paving the way for Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones and many other famous musicians to later record some of their classic songs there as well. It reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B Singles charts, was ranked 54th in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, and has been cut by artists like Michael Bolton, Barbara Mandrell and Art Garfunkel. Hearts Bluff Music recently purchased co-author Andrew Wright’s interest in this legendary song and is extremely proud to add it our portfolio!
