The Hearts Bluff Team

Our Story

Back in 2005 there were dozens of “for-lease” signs up on Music Row in Nashville. The music industry spiraled downwards, and songwriter-producer Scott Parker, saw it first-hand. Many traditional opportunities in the music industry had vanished, and Scott began looking for other opportunities.

On a fishing trip with his brother-in-law Eric, a hedge fund manager and investor, they struck up a conversation and began brainstorming different ways to find opportunities within a changing industry. When the conversation turned to music publishing, Eric said that songs reminded him of oil wells. Together they realized the potential for both investors and for songwriters. After returning home and consulting with good friend and fellow investor Jon Morgan, they decided that buying catalogs could be mutually beneficial to both buyers and sellers. Eric and Jon gathered a pool of investors to purchase catalogs, and Hearts Bluff Music was born.

Over 10 years later, Hearts Bluff is thriving. Scott currently runs the Nashville-based office with a small, specialized and focused team. Since 2005, Hearts Bluff has managed over 30 million dollars worth of catalog investments, and has assimilated a historic portfolio of copyrights and royalty interests spanning more than a half century of definitive American Music. These include over 90 #1 Hits, 10 Hall-of-Fame Songwriters, and thousands of songs performed by the top-selling artists of all time.

Our People

Scott Parker

Scott Parker is an award-winning songwriter, producer and music-publishing executive.

The well-traveled son of an International Diplomat and Military officer, Scott Parker was raised with a creative worldview that transcends borders. Following college in Texas, his wanderlust led to three years of national touring, working over 300 dates per year. After marrying his lifelong music collaborator Caryl, the couple moved to Portland, Oregon and chalked up songwriting awards, a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, and a solid AAA fan-base throughout the Northwest.

A move to Nashville in the mid-1990s, landed them both major publishing deals and a recording deal for Caryl. While supporting her career and touring, Scott caught Nashville’s notice with his innate song-sense and proficiency in the studio. Some of the world’s best publishers, record labels, artist and songwriters sought his talent as a producer and writer. The Parker home studio also became a de facto clubhouse for many musicians – including Brad Paisley, Josh Turner, Daryl Worley and producer Frank Rogers – to record their early albums.

Now with multiple Top-10 hits and songwriting awards under his belt, Parker has produced or written songs recorded by Patty Loveless, Sister Hazel, Will Hoge, James Otto, Joanna Cotten, John David Webster, George Canyon, Trevor Morgan, Trisha Yearwood, Kim Hill, Marilee Rush and others. He’s served as staff-writer/producer for Sony Music, Hamstein Music, Warner/Chappell and Reunion, and produced albums for Atlantic, Mercury, Universal, Word, Warner Bros, EMI & Magnatone.

In 2005 he co-founded Hearts Bluff Music Publishing where he serves as President/CEO, guiding the Creative and Acquisition development for the $30 million music publishing company. He was responsible for building the current portfolio, which includes over 90 #1 songs, 10 Hall of Fame Songwriters, and over 15,000 titles contained in over 60 different catalogs.

Ashley Hertzog Embry

Executive Vice President of Creative & Acquisitions

Born and raised in Newmanstown, PA, Ashley moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University in 2001. Upon graduating with honors, her last internship turned into her first full-time gig. She spent seven years managing the catalogs of Combustion Music and My Good Girl Music, before joining the Hearts Bluff team in 2013. As EVP of Creative and Acquisitions, Ashley keeps our deals flowing from solicitation to closing. A lover of all music, this girl’s got a soft spot for ‘90s country and soulful singers. When she’s not swooning over an old Otis Redding record, you can find this self-proclaimed “word nerd” writing in her journal, promoting her 2016 memoir “Letters To My Papa,” or enjoying the simple adventures in every day.

Brandon Hays

Executive Coordinator of Acquisitions
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brandon moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University, majoring in Commercial Music and Music Business. After graduating in 2013, Brandon garnered experience in management and publishing before joining the Hearts Bluff team as Executive Coordinator of Acquisitions in 2017. That fancy title means that he is involved in everything from deal management and marketing to scheduling and research.
When he’s not in the office, Brandon spends most weekends traveling as a tour manager and drummer for the likes of Andrew Peterson, Audrey Assad, and Keith & Kristyn Getty. At home, Brandon enjoys time with his wife, Kate and their daughter, Hannah. They’re proud of their south Louisiana heritage and can (and will) make a pot of gumbo or jambalaya at a moment’s notice.
